Just when you thought the Blue Jackets would leave the off-season unscathed, this happens. It is being reported by Darren Dreger of TSN, that Jared Bednar, former head coach of the Cleveland Monsters, has been named head coach of the Colorado Avalanche. Bednar took a team that was young and inexperienced and led them to a Calder Cup championship. His coaching ability shouldn’t be questioned but his experience behind the bench raises some eyebrows. Is he ready to take over such a role?
Hearing Jared Bednar as Avalance new coach. May not be finalized at this moment.

Much like the Monsters team last year, the Avalanche have some young parts that need to grow up fast for this team to succeed. Players like Gabriel Landeskog, Tyson Barrie and Nathan Mackinnon are some hard players to pass up. The most surprising part of this hire is the other candidates Bednar beat for the job. Names like Kevin Dineen and Lane Lambert were up for the job as well, they have extensive experience coaching at the NHL level.
Now the Blue Jackets will need to find someone for the Monsters coaching job. One would expect an in house hire so close to the season, expect a name like Toby Petersen to be up for the job. He was an assistant this past season under Bednar and would have plenty of knowledge about the team and it’s capabilities.
Good for Bednar but this now opens up a can of worms for the Blue Jackets. Where do the Monsters go from here?
