Ducks in the NFL: Jeff Maehl has a big night, Kaddu bashes, LMJ crashes

Jeff Maehl grabbed a team-high 8 passes for 61 yards in the Eagles 27-20 preseason loss to the Jets Thursday night in MetLife Stadium. The Eagles need help at receiver, and with cutdown day looming on Saturday, the Maehl-man might have delivered himself a game jersey for the team’s opener at Washington on Monday September 9th.

Will Murphy added two receptions for 18 yards, but probably hasn’t done enough to stick with the team. Linebacker Casey Matthews remains on the bubble after two solo tackles. Pat Chung is safe, sitting out last night’s game as Chip Kelly rested most of his starters. Matt Barkley played the entire second half at quarterback, hitting Maehl three times for 9, 5 and 9 yards on an 80-yard touchdown drive in the 3rd quarter.

The Eagles lined up in shotgun for most of the game but didn’t run any no-huddle until the second half when Barkley took over, running a very bland and basic offense with the regular season opener just ten days away.

David Paulson scored the Steelers only td in a their 25-10 loss to Carolina, grabbing a 13-yard pass from ex-Oklahoma Schooner Landry Jones for a first-quarter score. For the game the reliable tight end had four catches for 41 yards. It was Paulson’s first 6-pointer as a pro. As a rookie last season he caught  7 passes for 51 yards but did not reach the end zone.

Josh Kaddu tallied 5 tackles for the Dolphins in their 24-21 condemnation of the Saints, while Spencer Paysinger came up huge for the Giants, recording 4 tackles in New York’s revolting 28-20 loss to the Patriots.

LaMichael James and Adam Snyder both left the field with injuries during the 49’ers 41-6 negating of the Chargers. James was seen icing a knee, after injuring his elbow the week before. He was held to two carries for -4 yards, and hasn’t yet got his career really going at the pro level. Snyder had to go to the locker room for an x-ray on his hand. Will Tukuafu had a lone tackle and a quarterback hit for the San Francisco defense.
