The Ducks have won four straight over Cal and 13 of the last 20 meetings since 1990. The last time the two teams met in the conference opener, Oregon blitzed the Bears 42-3 at Autzen behind a 3-touchdown effort by tight end Ed Dickson. With both teams playing a no-huddle spread offense, there could be an offensive explosion of points, plays and yards in this game. Oregon leads the conference in points scored, total offense and rushing offense. Cal leads the nation in passing yards. The Ducks have put together 25 touchdown drives, and 21 have lasted less than two minutes. Cal comes into the game ranked 121st in scoring defense.

12 different players have scored for the Ducks. The Bears have scored 12 total touchdowns.

In their home opener against Northwestern Sonny Dykes and the Bears ran a fake field goal for a touchdown, and a hook and ladder for a first down. They lined up in five wides and a fullhouse backfield, gave up two pick sixes and still had a chance to win in the fourth quarter, down a touchdown with the ball at midfield.
