Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles fell out of first place Sunday after losing 17-3 at home to Dallas. The Eagle offense was completely grounded by Cowboy defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, Kelly’s team held without a touchdown for the first time in his college or pro career as head coach.
The Eagles managed just 278 yards and 19 first downs. 3rd-string quarterback Matt Barkley threw 3 interceptions in the fourth quarter after Nick Foles was injured, and Jeff Maehl had two costly drops, 0-4 on the balls thrown to him in the game. Foles started the game with Michael Vick sidelined with a hamstring injury, and he was a woeful 11-29 passing for 80 yards, sacked three times.
Philadelphia hosts the Giants this Sunday in another divisional matchup. The G-Men are fresh off a Monday night win over Minnesota, their first of the year. Spencer Paysinger had 3 tackles in the 23-7 win, the NY defense holding Josh Freeman and the Vikings to 206 total yards.
Walter Thurmond and Max Unger are 6-1 after the Seahawks clawed to a 34-22 victory over division rival Arizona. Thurmond contributed a pair of tackles and a quarterback hit.
The legend that is Kiko Alonso recorded four tackles as the Bills reached 3-4 with a 23-21 win over Miami. Alonso had a tackle for loss, and teammate Jairus Byrd contributed four stops. Fomer teammate Dion Jordan had a tackle for Fins, along with one quarterback hurry.
Still no touches for Kenjon Barner and LaMichael James. Both were inactive for their teams Sunday.
Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is out for the year with a knee injury, and former Webfoot Kellen Clemens will take over for 3-4 St. Louis. 2-4 Sunday for 19 yards as the Panthers doubled up St. Louis 30-15, Clemens is slated to go the whole way next Monday night against the 6-1 Seahawks in Seattle. The 30 year-old has been in the league for 8 years.
In a battle of Oregon tight ends, Baltimore downed Pittsburgh 19-16. David Paulson had one catch for the Steelers, for 17 yards. Ed Dickson had 2 for 17 for the Ravens. Haloti Ngata added four tackles and one-half a sack.
