During the team’s bye week San Francisco 49er head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed the media on the status of his roster and changes for the NFL’s second half of the regular season, and he specifically addressed the status of little-used running back LaMichael James.

Reporter Taylor Price of The Morning Quarterback was at the press conference. Harbaugh told the press corps, “Get LaMichael in the mix. I want to get that going. He’s just too good of a football player to not be playing.” (John Sebastian Russo photo).

In two pro seasons Oregon’s all-time leading rusher has 34 carries for 156 yards, 4.6 yards a carry. He hasn’t yet scored a touchdown. He’s been sidelined with a knee injury this season, missing four games, and the 6-2 Super Bowl contenders have relied heavily on Frank Gore in an offense that leads the NFL with 15 tds on the ground.

The NFL trading deadline is this Thursday, and the former Quack Attack wonder had been rumored in trade talks.

James measured 5-8 194 at the NFL Combine in 2011, and ran a 4.4 40. He bench-pressed 220 lbs. 15 times. Some scouts say he’s too small for the grind of the pro game, but Oregon fans saw him rush for 53 touchdowns and 5,082 yards, both school records.
