Kiko Alonso continued his phenomenal rookie season with 13 tackles in the Bills 37-14 win over the Jets. Alonso also deflected a pass. Teammate Jarius Byrd intercepted two passes, adding four tackles, a sack and a pass deflection in a dominating victory where they limited the New York squad to 267 yards of offense while forcing four turnovers.
Chip Kelly and the Eagles vaulted into first place over idle Dallas, besting Robert Griffin III and Washington 24-16 in a rematch from Week 1. Philadelphia cranked out 402 yards of offense and no turnovers, 6.5 yards per play, led by the passing of quarterback Nick Foles, 17-26 for 298 yards. LeSean McCoy had a pair of touchdown runs, 77 yards rushing and 73 receiving, going over the 1,000-yard mark for the season with 1,009 total yards on the ground.
The Eagles won their first game at home since September 2012. After a 4-12 season last year, they’re 6-5 going into a bye week, with five December games remaining and a chance at the playoffs.
Jeff Maehl was targeted once in the game but had no receptions. Patrick Chung helped pace the defensive effort with 6 tackles, while Casey Matthews contributed a pair of solo stops.
T.J. Ward and the Browns defense held Cincinnati to 224 yards of offense, but their inept O suffered 4 turnovers in a 40-21 loss. The Bengals used a 13-yard fumble return for a td by Vontaze Burfict and a blocked punt returned for another score to spark the win, with Cleveland falling to 4-6.
LaMichael James had 2 carries for 7 yards, 1 pass reception for 4 yards , 2 punt returns for 23 yards as the 49ers fell 23-20 to the Saints in New Orleans. Drew Brees engineered 3 fourth quarter field goal drives for the win, Garrett Hartley connecting from 21, 42 and 34 yards, the last with no time left on the clock.
The Saints got a big break when an unnecessary roughness penalty on a sack by Ahmad Brooks negated a lost fumble by Brees at the start of the drive with just 3:12 to play. San Francisco dropped to 6-4 after the loss, their second in a row.
Kyle Long and the Bears jumped into a first place tie with Detroit at 6-4 with a 23-20 overtime win at Soldier Field over Super Bowl Champion Baltimore. The Bears had 104 rushing and the offensive line allowed just two sacks for -1 yards in the game, won on a 38-yard field goal by Robbie Gould midway through the overtime period. Ravens tight end Ed Dickson, four years ago a hero for the Ducks in an overtime win over Arizona in a Rose Bowl season, had one catch for 16 yards.
