The loss by the #14 Huskies, who’d threatened to be a BCS buster and automatic qualifier after a 12-0 start against mid-major competition, is a pivotal hurdle in Oregon’s come-from-behind chase for an at-large BCS bid, possibly the Sugar Bowl against SEC Champion Auburn or Missouri.
The Ducks probably still need a win by Texas, who travels to Waco to face Baylor. An Oklahoma upset of Oklahoma State might help also.
Selection math is further complicated by conference tie-ins, perception, and the strength of fan bases as tourism opportunities for host cities.
