Visiting this weekend, Kahlil Oliver of Meridian, Idaho is another under-the-radar athlete that Duck fans may learn to love in the next few years.
Oliver stands out as a 6-0, 185-lb. safety/linebacker who attacks the football and finishes plays. He's relentless. He takes on the quarterback, forces the pitch, then downs the pitch man. He blitzes with tenacity and blasts people to the ground.
An outstanding athlete, the senior from Rocky Mountain High School thrives on competition and rises to his best under pressure. His personal bests in the triple jump, long jump and 110 meter hurdles all occurred at the state or district championships last spring. At state he won the hurdles and finished second in the triple jump, leaping 21-10.5 in the long jump, good for 5th place.
He also carries a 3.65 G.P.A. and wants a major in the medical field.
High school coach Scott Criner told Rachel Roberts of the Idaho Statesman, “Khalil is very intelligent and very aggressive,” Rocky Mountain coach Scott Criner said. “He has a very strong football acumen. He is academically smart, and it transfers to the field. He’s very rare that way.”
As a junior league coaches voted him the Defensive Player of the Year in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference after he turned in 75 tackles, 5 tfls, and two interceptions, making the all-state team. He has scholarship offers to Boise State, Washington, Washington State, OSU and the Ducks.
