Olathe, Kansas linebacker Jimmie Swain is officially a Duck, confirmed by goducks.com and the Oregon compliance office.
The 6-3, 230-lb. linebacker adds much-needed depth and athletic ability to a group that struggled to stop the run last year. He's a Semper Fi All-American with 16 scholarship offers, including Stanford, TCU, Oklahoma State and Arkansas.
Rated 3-stars by Rivals and 4-stars by 247Sports, Swain is a good tackler with speed and a 3.2 student who plans to major in business. He visited Oregon for the Civil War and committed upon returning home, after initially pledging to TCU over the summer.
What jumps out in Swain's highlight video is how he recognizes a play and runs to the point of attack. He's a hitter who plays smart and sorts through the offense quickly, quick and physical. Hell play early, like Michael Clay did. Has a similar combination of intelligence, athletic ability and aggressiveness, a great addition by new defensive coordinator Don Pellum and his staff. Swain also exhibits an outstanding attitude. His high school praises him as a great leader with a superb work ethic.
