My jaw dropped when I saw Ed Sheahin’s tweet of Spencer Long who started at center on the Redskins offensive line against the Eagles.
#Redskins C @slong_61 is 6'5" and has to be one of the largest centers in the NFL. Just ask RB Chris Thompson, if you can find him. pic.twitter.com/Zxr3EX3kJd

Kory Lichtensteiger’s status on Injured Reserve forced the Redskins to accept the trade off of ‘Steiger’s experience and familiarity with the blocking scheme for Long’s mammoth size. He is 30-pounds heavier than Lichtensteiger. Long played well in his start against the Eagles.
That’s not the only good press for the offensive line whose reputation has been (slowly) rising this year.
A story on csnwashington.com says that G Brandon Scherff is destroying D-linemen and linebackers.

Pro Football Focus called LT Trent Williams “dominant” in the win over Eagles.

Improving right tackle Morgan Moses earned PFF’s highest rating at his position in NFL Week 4. Who would have believed that last season?
Brandon Scherff earned the same rating in NFL Week 3.
PFF ranked the Redskins O-line as 4th best going into Week 5. The Giants ranked third and the Cowboys fifth on that list.
Football Outsiders rates the O-line 5th-best for run blocking and 7th-best for pass blocking after Week 6.
NFL.com’s Shaun O’Hara noticed it too. He called them us the NFL Line of the Week after manhandling the Eagles front 7.
So while Stephen A. Smith and Washington’s own fans over-fret about Kirk Cousins — who is doing fine, by the way — they have overlooked the quiet development of the Redskins offensive line.
Whether from roster stability or Bill Callahan’s coaching influence, it’s a wild wonderful and kinda weird feeling.
Hail to that!
