Pirri’s pair of goals made sure the Rangers kept the Bruins at bay following a miserable first 20 minutes. Credit the team for not panicking especially after going down 1-0 just 10 seconds in.
Miller’s pass through three Boston defenders over to Pirri for the power play game winner was just a microcosm of his night as whole. Through those first miserable 20 minutes, Miller was far and away the Rangers best player on the ice. In fact, his two shots in the opening frame almost found their way into the back of the net.
The Rangers’ offensive depth as a whole speaks volumes as to what the team is trying to accomplish this season. Yes, this team badly misses Kreider and his speed on the outside in particular on that line, but Miller makes up for that in spades with his playmaking ability in the dirty areas of the ice. When the Rangers offensive group gets healthy again, Miller as a third line winger about bottom pairing defensemen makes him a lethal option on what could be one of, if not, the deepest group of forwards in the NHL.
