Cavs Vs Rockets Preview

Today the Cavs will again play second fiddle to the Indians who will be playing for a World Series title. The league approved of the team’s request to move their game time up to lessen conflict with the Indians’ game. While Cavs players will quickly switch mindsets at conclusion of their game, they still must come prepared to face a solid Rockets team.

The Rockets are coming off of two straight victories against the Mavericks following a season opening loss to the Lakers. The turnover prone Rockets, who have yet to outscore an opponent a fourth quarter, will have a tough task on their hands as they make a visit to The Land.

Fresh off a title, the Cavs look to remain unbeaten as they begin the month of November. If they play the way they have to start the season, a victory should be expected.

Thus far, Kyrie Irving has been electric averaging 25 points per game on 50% three point shooting. LeBron has been masterfully facilitating the offense. And while shooting inefficiently, Love has still managed to put up 20 points as well as 9 rebounds per game.

The main point of focus on defense for Cleveland will certainly be James Harden who has been producing a Russell Westbrook-esc stat line on a nightly basis. Since shutting him down is unlikely, containing him will be the goal. While Harden lacks the supporting cast of LeBron, he still has professional basketball players on his team that could beat the Cavs on any given night.

The three biggest weaknesses of the Rockets are their depth, turnovers, and lack of rim protection. The game plan for Cleveland will be to attack the the rim, as the Rockets rank second last in the league in shots blocked. Forcing turnovers will be a point of emphasis, but the actual conversion of transition points from these turnovers will be the goal. Attacking the rim will also hopefully get Rocket players into early foul trouble and expose their lack of depth.

While all of you Clevelanders get pumped up to watch the Indians make sure to check out your Cavs first for what should be a good game. I mean, unless you’re actually at the Indians game. In that case you get a pass to miss out on one Cavs game.
