AP: Redskins TE Niles Paul to Injured Reserve. Out for the season.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden reported that TE Niles Paul needs surgery to repair his labrum injured in the October 30 Bengals game played in London, UK. The Redskins placed Paul on Injured Reserve. He will miss the rest of the 2016 season according the Associated Press.

Paul missed the entire 2015 season after fracturing his ankle during a preseason game.

Washington shored up the tight end position by signing veteran free agent Vernon Davis. He was expected to be an elder statesman who would mentor Jordan Reed and Paul. Davis has been a pleasant surprise as a receiving target with a mid-season total of 316 yards and a score on 23 catches.

At one point, fans envisioned a dynamic three-tight end set with Reed, Paul and Davis confusing defenses. Gruden and OC Sean McVay were mum about the idea. Paul rarely made the field on game day.

Hard luck for the kid. Hog Heaven wishes him a speedy recovery.

The Redskins signed T Blaine Clausell from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad to the active roster. Clausell entered the league with Baltimore as a 2015 free agent and then bounced between the Ravens and the Patriots practice squad. Interesting that the Redskins signed him directly to the roster.
