The Blues made a series of roster moves to start the week, placing Joel Edmundson on the IR while recalling Petteri Lindbohm and sending Ty Rattie down to the AHL on a conditioning assignment. Lindbohm’s promotion comes as a direct result of the upper-body injury to Edmundson while Rattie’s demotion comes as a result of sparse playing time for the 23-year-old skater.
Rattie has only skated in one game for the Blues this season. He suited up against the Vancouver Canucks and managed one shot in just over eight minutes of playing time. Since then, Rattie has been passed over by other options and has found himself spending plenty of time in the press box. Instead of letting Rattie waste away off the ice, the Blues are shipping him to the Chicago Wolves to get some sort of playing time.
Rattie’s story has been a frustrating one for Blues fans. He has shown an immense amount of promise and potential in the minors, but little of that has translated at the NHL level. He hasn’t exactly been given a regular role to thrive in, but then again he hasn’t exactly done much to earn that regular role either. No one is saying he’s on the level of Magnus Paajarvi quite yet (too soon?), but now that Rattie is 23 and in his fourth season skating in either the NHL or AHL, one has to wonder when – or if – Rattie’s time will come.
