Game of Inches
After being 6-0 against the New York Giants in the regular over the last three seasons, respectfully. The Eagles finally got a taste of there own medicine as the Eagles lost on a ugly game to the Giants at MetLife Stadium by the score of 28-23. The game started out shaky for Wentz throwing an interception on the first two offensive drives. Landon Collins and undrafted free agent, Andrew Adams came up with those interceptions.
After the first quarter the Eagles saw the Wentz get back on grove and threw for a career high, 364 yards in the losing effort. This was also the first game Wentz did not throw a touchdown in a game. Darren Sproles lead the Eagles in the running game for the second week in a row, but with only 57 yards on 13 carries. Zach Ertz had a season-high eight receptions for 97 yards. In Bryce Treggs’s debut with the Birds he did not disappoint hauling in two receptions for 69 yards. Treggs showed something this team has yet to see and that is a true deep threat that can take the top off the defense. It’s essential for the Eagles to keep Treggs in the game just to provide a different aspect.
Even with the rough start Wentz lead the Eagles back all the way to a one possession game with that ball in his own hands to win the game. The last play of game was a ball that lead receiver, Jordan Matthews too much to the right and that ball fell incomplete to give the Giants the ball and ultimately run the clock to improve to 5-3 at the midway point of the year.
Wentz Mania Continues
Although the Eagles have a lot of work to do, Wentz is still gaining national media and this time it comes from Kurt Warner. Warner said on NFL Network after the game that he would take Wentz over Eli Manning, who has won two Super Bowls in his career. Warner praised Wentz calmness in the pocket and the way he changes the plays at the line when needed.
Treggs Talk
Undrafted free agent who was signed by the San Francisco Forty Niners after the draft was cut and picked up by Eagles and spent the first 8 weeks of the season and a healthy scratch, but with the recent release of Josh Huff, Treggs got the opportunity. Treggs played only 15 snaps while receiving four targets and ending the game with 2 receptions for 69 yards. Treggs also had the most explosive offensive play, that being his 58 yard reception in the second quarter. Look for Treggs to get more work as the season goes on.
Hidden Notes
The Eagles still need to fill a lot of holes including the running back position where currently is lead by 33 year-old, Darren Sproles who is on pace to receive a career-high in carries this year. The Eagles have to address the running back situation in the offseason and should target at least two backs in the draft.
