A five game point streak came to an end as the Columbus Blue Jackets fell to the Boston Bruins by a score of 5-2. The Bruins dominated most of the game but how exactly did it get to that point?
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Good: Saad, Wennberg, Foligno line
This line keeps chugging along and putting up points at a good clip. They started off the night with the first goal of the game and Wennberg couldn’t have made it any easier for Foligno. While overall their shot differential metrics weren’t all that great, they still continue to eat minutes and put up good numbers in the face of bad play at times. Wennberg is still over a point per game and Foligno is second on the team in points.
Both may not be sustainable but it has kept the Blue Jackets afloat during the early part of the season, that is an invaluable resource for a team that needed a strong start.
The Bad: Dalton Prout
Prout gets the brunt of criticism at times when in reality he does a lot of little things right and keeps the puck down on the offensive end of the ice. Last night though was not one of those nights. He was instrumental in two of the goals against and was generally aloof on the ice. His partner Markus Nutivaara didn’t do much to help but Prout continually put him in a poor position to succeed.
At some point in time Scott Harrington will end up getting a look and if Prout isn’t careful, he may be the one to get replaced.
The Ugly: The Fourth line
Matt Calvert, Josh Anderson and William Karlsson have mostly had a good season considering what the fourth line has looked like in years past. Last night against the Bruins, they were stunningly abysmal. The highest CF% between the three of them at even strength was 27%, that isn’t just bad, it’s so bad that a cardboard cutout may have had better defense then the three of them. They have had good seasons up to this date so don’t expect them to be in the doghouse for very long, if this group continues to perform like that, they should look to break the group up.
