Upset the Western Conference’s number one seed San Antonio Spurs, and have a successful playoff run, and be honored by an entire city.
At least that’s what the city of Memphis is going to do for Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins for not only beating the Spurs in the opening round of the playoffs but for the overall success the Grizzlies had in the playoffs:
The city of Memphis will honor Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins for his role in leading the NBA team to its most successful playoff run in franchise history.
Hollins will be honored at Tuesday’s City Council meeting with a formal proclamation by Mayor A C Wharton and City Council chairman Myron Lowery.
Kudos to Hollins. If this gets the citizens of Memphis minds off the recent floods and gives them a moment to escape, then enjoy celebrating the Grizzlies’ success.
Also, I highly doubt Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich would go for this. He’d be thankful but ultimately pass on it. If that’s the case, then it would be “Popovich Day” all year in San Antonio.
