San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker made waves when he told the French media last month that the Spurs championship window is closed but is now blaming the French media for those comments:
Parker on Tuesday blamed reporters in his home country after being quoted in May as saying the Spurs can “no longer say” they’re playing for a fifth title in the Tim Duncan era. The comments came a few weeks after the 61-win Spurs were upset in the first round by eighth-seeded Memphis.
Parker said Tuesday that “newspapers need stories” yet wouldn’t exactly clarify what he told the French media. The 29-year-old instead said he didn’t have to justify anything and reiterated his commitment to the Spurs.
Parker further said:
“I’m in a great situation. I love the Spurs. I love being a Spur. I re-signed four years. If I didn’t think we could win a championship, I would have re-signed four years. I love being with my teammates. I’m very loyal and I love being here.”
“I don’t know what they tried to say or stuff like that, but Pop, Manu and Timmy know me,” Parker said. “I’m not going to stand in front of you and try to justify myself or my loyalty to the Spurs. I love the Spurs and I think we have a great chance in a couple of years to win it all. As long as Timmy and Manu and me are on the team, we have a chance to win.”
Well Parker if the newspapers needed stories, you sure gave them one. However, no one forced Parker to make those comments so how can he blame the media? He said what he said, and it seemed sincere and truthful.
Moreover, Parker has been around the media ever since he was a professional basketball player so to blame the media for his comments, in my opinion, seems a bit off.
Sure Parker reinforced his commitment to the Spurs, but you know his original thoughts on the Spurs championship window has some truth to it.
What say you Spurs fans? Satisfied with Parker’s response?
