For the San Antonio Spurs, one of the most glaring needs is size. After Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter, there is a considerable drop off in big men for San Antonio.
Recently, there was some hope this need may be addressed when Erazem Lorbek – whose rights were acquired on draft night – reportedly was considering to make his way to the NBA and the Spurs. However, he signed a two-year extension with his current team Regal Barcelona, all but ending any thoughts Spurs fans could see a legit big man in black and silver.
Another potential big man who reportedly drew interest from the Spurs and worked out for San Antonio and various other teams was Gustavo “The Titan” Ayon. However, if there was any chance Ayon could make it to the NBA and hopefully join San Antonio, has ended.
According to El Universal, Ayon said he will fulfill the remaining two-years of his contract with his current team, Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in Spain, thanks in part to the current NBA lockout.
The Mexican player said he will fulfill his contract with the Fuenlabrada, which is valid for two years, which puts an end to rumors that puts [him] in the NBA.
No Lorbek. No Ayon. It would seem the search for a big man continues for the Spurs.
