The man who endorsed San Antonio Spurs’ Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker in the 1999 and 2001 NBA Draft respectively, Rob Meurs, will be remembered at the Eurojam 2011 tournament in Holland:
Meurs was an NBA scout for 20 years with the Golden State Warriors and most recently the New Jersey Nets, but it was with the San Antonio Spurs that he was really able to leave his scouting imprint: In 1999, he endorsed Manu Ginobili at no. 57 overall in the NBA draft and Tony Parker at no. 28 in 2001.
Meurs was killed in an automobile accident in Germany last April after attending a basketball tournament. Thanks to his scouting, Ginobili and Parker have been considered two of the best late draft picks and have gone on to help the Spurs win three of their four NBA titles.
