San Antonio Spurs’ Tiago Splitter and Brazil wrapped up round one of the FIBA Americas tournament with a 93-83 victory on Saturday evening over Cuba.
In the win, Splitter was able to get rest the majority of the game as he came off of the bench and only played for 10 minutes. He finished with four points and three rebounds in the limited minutes he did play.
Brazil was led by Victor Alves Benites’ 19 points while Yoan Luis led Cuba with a game high 27 points.
Brazil’s start to the tournament might be seen as a bit of a surprise. Without Nene, Anderson Verajao, and Leandro Barbosa in the fold, this left a lot on the shoulders of Splitter. However, so far so good as Brazil continues to march on in Argentina.
Splitter and Brazil will return to the court on Monday when round two of the 2011 FIBA Americas tournament resumes in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
