Lost in the shadows of the FIBA Americas and Eurobasket Olympic qualifying tournaments this summer was San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown’s Australian team winning the FIBA Oceania tournament securing their spot at the London 2012 games.
Brown serves as the Boomers head coach and this victory for his team deserves recognition. Australia defeated New Zealand in a sweep to take the title. Leading the way was former Spurs training camp hopeful Kirk Penny with 27 points.
However, it was a hard-fought series for the two teams.
In case you didn’t know, Australia and New Zealand have an intense rivalry and this series was a reflection on how deep the rivalry is.
Check out what happened in game one of the series. To say it was a physical series would be an understatement.
