The Globe's Marc Spears remains excited with the notion the Celtics might sign Antonio McDyess. According to the Rocky Mountain News, the buyout is complete with McDyess receiving just $6 million of the $15 million owed to him over the next two years. By buyout standards, that's a steal for Denver. So what's next for Antonio?
"Dice only wants to play in Detroit," one source said, upholding what we reported from the start Monday. – ESPN.
While all signs point to Detroit, McDyess will have to wait 30 days before rejoining the Pistons. Not to mention, Detroit doesn't have the cash to throw around:
The Pistons, furthermore, don't have the financial flexibility to pay McDyess as much in a new deal as, say, Cleveland, with the Cavs still possessing $5.1 million of their mid-level exception. Detroit can't even match what Boston ($2.4 million) or San Antonio ($2.1 million) could offer immediately unless McDyess signs for the rest of the season and then winds up signing a more lucrative one-year contract for next season, which wouldn't conflict with the Pistons' plans in the 2010 free-agent market.
I remain doubtful the Celtics will be able to sign him – call it a gut feeling.

Each sought to play not for himself but for the team. This has become such an empty cliché in pro sports that it needs repeating — Garnett, Pierce and Allen each pursued an agenda that reduced their individual stats on the faith that it would help the team. The scoring numbers of each star plummeted with no guarantee that they would win. They had no reason to believe that their selflessness would pay off, because none of them had ever been part of anything greater than himself.
