Just when I thought the Cowboys were done in free agency, we just signed Gerald Sensabaugh to a 1yr deal. The Cowboys are going with the Ken Hamlin scenario possibly, in which the player is signed for short-term and if he is effective, the Cowboys could offer him a better deal
The only difference here is that Sensabaugh has a checkered past here, with several (3) crimes to his resume. Not good. Sensabaugh was just recently caught with a bunch of guns, read more here. This is more like a Adam Jones situation. Sensabaugh can play in this league and be effective, but getting in trouble will hold him back and the Cowboys.
I like the signing for the simple fact it gives us one more step up on the draft. Does this mean we’re not in the market for a top flight safety in the draft? No way. Nothing has changed. We still draft a safety this year. Too me, Jerry is setting up the draft with our relatively small, frugal additions, and I can see him pulling off something masterful this year. Lets land some solid guys.
This signing also means that Scandrick will remain at cornerback; in addition, this also means the Cowboys are not confident in Newman staying healthy. Hence, we’re going to rely heavily on Scandrick at some point of the season, mark it down. Nothing against Newman, but c’mon, he’s older and beatup, look at his fellow corners, they are aging too and getting beat up. Where have the elite corners gone? They have aged and fallen off the map, and Newman is on the cusp of joining them. Come camp I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls something, or something, seems to be his MO nowadays.
Anyway, this is all tied around Newman, and this move gives us options for a future safety and perhaps another future cornerback. This is going to be Jenkins and Scandrick secondary soon, very soon, might as well continue to add depth because you can never have enough defensive backs.
