I think my love for Leon has been made clear here since day 1. I’ve said a million times that I think he should be a Celtic forever. But that’s the bleed-green die-hard emotional fan talking. And the NBA is a business. So we need to look at Leon Powe.
Leon, like Glen Davis, is a restricted free agent. The debate has flickered on and off this season… Leon or Baby… with no real resolution. Looking down the line, I’m not so sure we can keep both guys.
I’m not going to get into that debate here. I’m just going to say that despite his lack of size, he performs very well in the post. He gets rebounds that you’d think he had no chance of grabbing. Good luck finding someone who gets to the line with more frequency that isn’t a superstar. And on D, I defy you to find someone better at taking a charge.
But… he’s got that knee injury. And he won’t be back until mid-season. His lack of height does make him a bit of a liability at times. And his offense is limited to the post area.
It pains me to even bring up this discussion… which proves I can’t be an NBA GM. I fall in love with players like this. He’s a heart guy. He’s a role model. He’s everything you want in a human being. But pretty much none of that matters when it comes to a business decision like this.
So… do you bring back Leon, or not?
