Despite my attempts to shrug off his reporting, Comcast SportsNet's Gary Tanguay continues to lead the way on the Rasheed Wallace story.
The Celtics and 'Sheed must be really close to a dollar figure or else there would be no reason for a visit. He'll likely get a tour of the practice facility and drive through some of the suburbs where Paul Pierce, KG and Ray chill in their mansions.
One warning to Wallace, be prepared to pay a crap load of taxes. I know you have a ton of money, but Taxachusetts will find a way to grab its share.
That alleged midnight visit paid by Ainge and Leo Papile to Wallace's home apparently didn't happen. Ainge tells Marc Spears he was on the phone in his office making calls to 10 free agents Wednesday at midnight:
operations. “Rasheed is a guy we have interest in. We made calls with
quite a few free agents’ representatives late last night from my office
to let them know we have interest. We contacted 10 free agents and
tried to get some feedback in what they are looking for and their
interest long term. But that’s about it. Mostly for something down the
road.’’
Spears also reports the Pistons signing of Charlie Villanueva could nudge Antonio McDyess out the door:
Orlando who is close to Garnett – and forward Antonio McDyess, Ainge
has expressed interest in both players. McDyess was expected to return
to the Pistons, but began checking other options because Detroit signed
Charlie Villanueva, who agreed in principle to a contract yesterday,
according to the Associated Press.
