Tomorrow, apparently, is D-Day

Tomorrow, apparently, is D-Day

So here is the situation. Blackburn sits presently at 19th on the English Premier League. They are 4 points behind Bolton, and 6 points behind Queens Park Rangers and Wigan. They need to finish 17th or better in order not to be relegated. They need, in other words, to win their next two matches (worth three points apiece).

They play Wigan tomorrow, in what is undoubtedly the most important game of the season. They get a chance to stay alive for the season, all while limiting one of the teams they are chasing to no points. The reason they are in this predicament is the above gentleman, manager Steve Kean, and his complete inability to manage a soccer club. Yes, he does wear that confused, pained look all the time. It’s a miracle he has kept his job after running the team into the ground last year, and after a miserable 2011-12 campaign. He will need to use that same horseshoe to get past Wigan and prevent relegation.

So, what’s at stake? The Rovers would be dropped to the English Championship, the 2nd level of English football. Not really the minors, because entire teams are promoted, but still not very good for a clubs finances, nor for their overall image. They are out of the spotlight, and lose the revenue that the Premier League brings. Basically, they are out of top level soccer, and Blackburn will feel it.

Of course, that’s nothing compared to what the Minnesota Vikings are facing tomorrow. I guess it is similar though, because Minnesota may be left without top level football.
