The Wilfs win

The Wilfs win

Allow me to editorialize for a moment. Zygi Wilf looks like a 19th century train robber. He looks as though he should wear a tophat whenever outdoors, to emphasize how sophisticated he is. I’m not saying he looks like a bad guy, I’m saying he looks like a straight-up villain.

And he sort of has been for the last few years in Minnesota. While the Vikings certainly needed a new stadium to remain financially viable, he brainwashed Vikings fans into thinking it was the most important thing in the world that the team get a stadium. He also used his control over fans to convince them that not only did they need a new stadium, they couldn’t afford to pay as much as most other teams had. In fact, he needed a public contribution of what turns out to be about 500 million dollars. This is second only to Indianapolis’s public contribution. Indianapolis is widely regarded as pathetic.

Oh, and he made threats! Well, Wilf had henchmen to make threats, in true villain status. Lester Bagley, Roger Goodell, all operating on his behalf, seemed to imply that football would not be much longer for Minnesota. The people were afraid that they would lose football, and now the state appears to be buckling, and there is a bill that is expected to make it to the floor for a final vote.

So basically, Zygi Wilf took advantage of people he had brainwashed, used his henchman to threaten harm to the city (well, the football team) and used these tactics to get 500 million dollars from the state and city. That’s some pretty sophisticated villainy. If only the Avengers were here to defeat him.

(If you want to say that, since I stated that the the new stadium was in fact needed, then the only problem is that he asked, and will receive, so much more money than other municipalities. If you are OK with a crook taking only 100 million dollars, than more power to you)
