When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time listening to talk radio. Like, unhealthy amounts of time. My dad listened to WCCO all the time, and I would listen right along with him. I am the type of guy that needs some sound in the room as I fall asleep, and growing up, that was more of the same, WCCO. During baseball season, I would hear the final innings of the Twins game. When not in season, it was often Dark Star. Dark Star passed away suddenly this afternoon at the age of 66.
As a kid, I wasn’t quite in tune with his acerbic tone (especially when trying to fall asleep), but as I’ve grown, and the world of sports world has turned so much more cynical with the internet, it seems that Dark was ahead of his time. He was the first real fan that stumbled into sports commentary that I had heard before, rather than a journalist or former athlete. RIP, Darkman
