Trying to figure out Jim Irsay’s tweet

If you are on Twitter, and have followed Colts owner Jim Irsay, you may have won a contest, enjoyed some classic rock or even been mystified by tweets like this:

There are three options that I think are serious possibilities, or at least have heard about in the 12 hours since the tweet was sent. None of them really strike my as major possibilities, but let’s address them anyways.

Defense: The Colts are bad on defense. They have been for many years. But is it really a big trade worth giving up high picks to improve one position on defense? My opinion is that defensive flaws are often systemic, and while good players will help, one player won’t transform a team, especially one acquired this late into the preseason. A move for a defensive player is not likely.

Mike Wallace: The Pittsburgh hold out would be desirable for any team, especially one looking to bolster their receiving corps. Of course, that characterization doesn’t fit the Colts. They have a veteran receiver in Reggie Wayne to anchor things, they drafted T.Y. Hilton, LaVon Brazill and two tight ends  to bolster depth highlighted by Austin Collie and the free agent addition Donnie Avery. Wallace would help, but wide receiver is hardly the position of most need.

Maurice Jones-Drew:  The Colts have added Mewelde Moore and Deji Karim through waivers, and drafted Vick Ballard, yet somehow, Donald Brown is still starting. They could use a running back, is what I’m saying. Would the Jaguars trade within the division? Probably not. I don’t think this seems like much of a possibility either because of that reason.

Since I’ve been writing this post, CBS Sports’ Jason LaCanfora published one of his own, saying that everything I wrote is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! and the Colts are likely going to be making a move for an offensive lineman. So that’s pretty exciting.
