The Rhino and Compass year in review

This was a big year for the site. This time last year, the site was still called The Victoria Times and it had become a little bit staid. Then in March, we rolled out the Rhino and Compass, and subsequently, about 3 months later, linked up with Yardbarker and Fox Sports. It’s been a big half year of traffic and angry comments, and I have loved every minute of it. That said, the top 10 posts for the year have obviously come from the past several months. What were the top ten?

#10 – “Andrew Luck versus Robert Griffin is a non-starter” – This post came out in the last couple of weeks, discussing why Griffin vs Luck wasn’t really that important an argument or debate. It was misinterpreted, and people called me stupid.

#9 – “Can we please just ignore Penn State?” – I plead with people to just let Penn State deal with its own issues, and try to separate our feelings on the victims and Jerry Sandusky from the football team. It was taken the wrong way, and I was called an idiot. Former FBI director Louis Freeh was called stupid.

#8 – “Is David Gettis a sleeper?” – The first post that really caught on at Yardbarker, after ESPN decreed Carolina Panthers receiver David Gettis a sleeper I explored and disagreed. People interpreted the post as a knock on Cam Newton, and implied that I was stupid.

#7 – “What does Joe Mauer have to do?” – Joe Mauer is a really good baseball player and was lustily booed. I called other people stupid.

#6 – “This doesn’t make any sense.” – I question the Twins handling df Brian Dozier. Essentially, I called the Twins stupid.

#5 – “Remember, this is all Ron Gardenhire’s fault” – I got some good run out of the Twins’ shortstop situation, recounting how we got into the mess with Nishioka and Dozier. I called Ron Gardenhire stupid.

#4 – “The Twins set their staff” – The Twins shuffled up their staff this offseason. Like, really only shuffled, they didn’t add any new cards, really. I called this stupid.

#3 – “Twins trade for pitching, phat beats” – The Twins trade of Ben Revere brought back Vance Worley and Trevor May, AKA DJ Hey Beef. Nothing stupid here.

#2 – “Scott Baker is gone, now what?” – After Scott Baker shunned the Twins and went to the Cubs, I said it was clear that if the Twins wanted to add free agent pitchers, they were almost certainly going to have to overpay. This was an accurate assessment (see: Kevin Correia). How come nobody tells me when I’m not stupid?

#1 – “The Vikings are still not that great”  – After 5 weeks of the season, I was still not impressed with the Vikings. For the next few weeks, it looked like I was on to something, and the state of Minnesota turned on the team. At the time, people thought I was stupid. Like, a lot of people thought I was stupid. They might have been right.

Thanks for putting up with me and all my stupidity this year. To 2013
