There is a big game on TV tonight. Perhaps you heard. Ravens-49ers. Super Bowl. Right. This causes an obvious conundrum for anyone who has to broadcast against the Super Bowl, because it does such excellent ratings. Obviously, there are some networks that cater to people with no interest in football, so you get things like the the Puppy Bowl. They actually can fight for some meager rankings during the game. I’m not talking about them.
There are networks that would otherwise be airing sporting events that are left at a loss during the Big Game. The networks that are essentially out there broadcasting because its all they know how to do, not because they really have anything worth airing. What are they airing?
– ABC: Americas Funniest Home Videos marathon. Not a bad strategy. Bored kids everywhere will be wanting to watch dudes getting hit in the nuts.
– NBC: Betty White’s Off Their Rockers, followed by “First 5 Years of SNL”. This is almost an effort, actually.
– Fox: Regular Animation Domination programming. It’s like they don’t want to acknowledge the game is even on.
– ESPN: Worlds Strongest Man marathon. Not an actual marathon. Just a bunch of episodes in a row.
– ESPN2: Caribbean World Series. The only live event that is on opposite the Super Bowl, I believe.
– FSN: Car Warriors and World Poker Tour: I think “guys sitting around” is the perfect competition for the Super Bowl.
