Real sports enthusiasts will know that Bunheads refers to ballerinas. Bunheads is a show on ABC Family that began last summer about a small town dance studio. It is the latest project from Amy Sherman-Palladino, the brains and wit behind Gilmore Girls.
Bunheads is hilarious, it features a wide variety of ‘characters’, and has many beautifully choreographed ballet numbers. I love dance, so this is the perfect show. The star is Broadway veteran Sutton Foster who has amazing comedic timing. She plays a Vegas showgirl who ends up getting married and working with her mother-in-law at the dance studio. In my opinion Sasha (one of the students) is the best character though, because her attitude and aloofness is so-accurate of teenage girls.
The show has surprises in every episode; there is nothing predictable about it. And since I’m a huge Gilmore Girls fan, I love the constant character cameos. Paris Geller plays a dead-on sister who owns most of the town. Bunheads also features hard-hitting crime ( just kidding) when all of the dancers get maced (for real).
The one issue I have with this show is the creepy and odd score/theme music. It has a depressing tone that it ends on which doesn’t fit the show at all. The show did begin with a death, but in contrast the show is lighthearted and fun.
If you like dance, Broadway, and fashion, this show is perfect for you!
