Summer TV brings us shows that the networks want to test out on the relaxed Summer viewing audience. Usually, they are shows that don’t require much thinking. I just checked out two of these shows to see if they were worth time this Summer.
Mistresses
ABC’s latest attempt to replace Desperate Housewives is Mistresses. It has an interesting cast with Alyssa Milano and Yunjin Kim (from LOST). I watched the first two episodes of the season. Even though the cheating and complications are intriguing, the characters do not capture my attention. I don’t feel any compassion for these characters. I am not sure if they’re written poorly, or if the premise of the show has decided to showcase their flaws before making them redeemable in the viewers’ eyes. I’ll give this show one more episode, and then I’m probably kicking it to the curb. It is no where close to Desperate Housewives.
Devious Maids
I also checked out the Pilot for Lifetime’s highly advertised Devious Maids. Even though it was originally developed for ABC, I hope the advertising will bring the necessary viewers to Lifetime. This show captured my attention from the beginning. The cast is made up of familiar faces that have all had supporting roles in popular TV Shows and moves. Each of the maids’ storylines is exciting and I can’t wait to unravel the web they are tangled in. They all have originated from hardship, but are dedicated to their jobs. My favorites are Rosie and Marisol. Rosie’s employer is ridiculously self-centered. Marisol is looking for Flora’s killer. It’s a classic CLUE problem. Who killed the maid in the study with a knife (that someone else was left holding)?
