I don’t really cook at home, currently… at all. I am excited to cook a lot in the future though. Because of this, I have never really watched or been excited about cooking shows. While watching my many season finales on Hulu in May, I saw many (repeated) commercials for the fourth season of MasterChef. I decided to give it a shot since summer was coming and I needed some TV to tide me over until Fall.
I’ve devoured every episode of this season so far! It’s great. The show moves very fast. Unlike Idol and other competition shows, MasterChef only focused 3 or 4 episodes on the try-outs. Homechefs/amateur chefs compete on MasterChef under the watchful eye of Gordon Ramsey, Graham Elliot and Joe Bastianich. The judges are tough, but appear very accurate
The best part of the show is how much they pack into each episode. Some episodes have 3 separate challenges in them! The chefs compete in team challenges like serving to 300 school children; in tasks where they need to cook specific foods such as key lime pie; and the best Mystery Box challenge. Mystery Box challenges provide the contestants with random ingredients that they have to concoct something out of. Last week’s box included Japanese sea weed!
All I can say is that I am hooked!
