Entertainment Roundup: I love Monsters!

imagesMonsters, Inc was a great movie, but one that I haven’t seen in quite a while. Either way, I was very excited to see Monsters University. And HOLY COW! It was great, definitely exceeded my expectations.

The story line was well thought-out and surprising. Putting the monsters cast of characters in college was clever. Mike was nerdy, had big dreams, and was roommates with Randall. I noticed a lot of the original characters, but I didn’t catch on until the end that Randall (Mike’s roommate) was the evil Randall from the first movie!

I figured it would be funny movie, but with a semi-predictable plot. I was shocked by most of the twists and turns it took. In the first part of the movie, both Sully and Mike are kicked out of the scaring program. They try to put their dreams aside and try something else, but their hearts aren’t in it. Mike gets them to team up with Oozma Kappa. The viewers learn a few life lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and hardwork. Everything seems to be turning around, until the very end. Sully and Mike are kicked out of college FOR GOOD!??????

I know being kicked out of college isn’t a positive thing, but I was endeared to the screenwriters for telling such an honest tale. It was also super hilarious.

A few heart-warming moments:

  • Oozma Kappa welcoming Sully and Mike into their group without questioning their motives.
  • Sully and Mike working together to scare many adults at summer camp.
  • Don Carlton marrying Squishy’s mom.
  • Nathan Fillion as the voice of the Roar Omega Roar frat.
  • Mike and Sully working their way through Monster’s Inc from the mailroom.
