I was at the Twins game yesterday. You know, game 3 of a 4 game disaster with the Yankees (by the way, can we put to rest the talk about the Yankees simply being too good? Zoilo Almonte? David Adams? The Twins just have a complex and need to get over the mental block). It was depressing. This weekend was all depressing.
Still, at the game my friend and I noted that the Twins had 2/3 of the outfield of the future out there. Oswaldo Arcia and Aaron Hicks were in the field. We started talking about the future third player in that up and coming outfield, Byron Buxton. That got us thinking about the entire picture of the Twins system. Without getting too deep into the details, picture this lineup that my friend and I imagined for the Twins in the next couple of years.
CF Buxton
2b Eddie Rosario
C Joe Mauer (Still here!)
3b Miguel Sano
LF Arcia
DH Trevor Plouffe
1b Chris Parmelee
RF Hicks
SS Brian Dozier
You can quibble about the order those batters will end up, or even about a few of the names on the list, but if you don’t follow the prospects in the Twins system and how fast they are coming, take it from me. This is an exciting foundation. It’s rough right now, but it’s going to get better very soon.
