Cowboys Run Over Rams 31-7

The Cowboys needed to avoid a slow start and they came out focused in all facets of the game. The Cowboys ran all over the Rams, literally, in a lopsided victory 31-7. This is the type of game the Cowboys would have been tripped by, but they made a statement instead. You want your team to dictate how the offense will operate and today the Cowboys unleashed DeMarco Murray to the tune of 175 yards on 26 carries, plus a touchdown.

I wouldn’t say the Cowboys have developed an identity on offense yet, but if the Cowboys can use this game as a launch pad for consecutive wins, then we may be in for something magical this season – we’ll see. Its just one game, but it underscores what this team in capable of doing.

Defensively, the Cowboys do have an identity and that’s a mauling defense. We are flying around on every snap, everyone is contributing to the gang tackling, and we are making people think twice about passing down the field. Opposing QBs have been consistently getting hit, hurried, and sacked. The Cowboys had 6 sacks today, further highlighting how much different this defense looks under the 4-3 scheme. Jason Hatcher is flourishing under the guidance of Kiffin and Marenelli. Spencer who? forget that guy, George Selvie is getting it done, nice addition to the defensive line. Can you imagine how this front will look with Ratliff in the mix.

DeMarcus Ware passes Cowboys legend Harvey Martin for the all-time team sack record. Ware is on track for a solid season, and defensive MVP considerations at this pace. Ware is now sitting at 115 sacks for Dallas. Amazing.

Looking ahead, the Cowboys head to San Diego, and we’ll see how the offense looks if we don’t have Miles Austin available. Like clock work, Austin left the 3rd quarter with his yearly hamstring injury. We need Terrance Williams to show up now more than ever, he’s had a slow start thus far. Gavin Escobar nabbed a beautiful catch from Romo today, so that was nice to see from the rookie. Hopefully, Escobar’s TD can be something he’ll continue grow from and get more involved in the passing game.

The rest of the NFC East

The Giants and Redskins continue their slides dropping to 0-3 for the season. The Eagles are in 2nd place at 1-2. This is when the Cowboys need to continue to distance themselves from the pack and take a strangle hold on the division.
