Looks like the Anthony Spencer era in Dallas is finally over. Jerry Jones is reporting that Spencer will likely need micro-fracture knee surgery, which will end his career in Dallas, and perhaps in the NFL. Micro-fracture surgery is a scary thing for players, and scarier for teams who would have otherwise been interested in signing Spencer next year. Spencer was an adequate player, nothing special, a Wade Phillips relic; and to me, I never saw him as a Garrett type player.
What this means for the defense?
It means George Selvie will be the man full-time, and who doesn’t mind that right now? Selvie has been playing solid football, he’s been a major contributor to this fierce pass rush renaissance. Further ahead, you can fully expect the Cowboys to add more depth for the 2014 NFL Draft. The Cowboys have also signed DT Drake Nevis and cut Jeremy Long to make room for the move. I’d expect the Cowboys to add another DE as well.
