The Dolphins beat the Cardinals 26-23 in a pouring rain on Sunday, and after the game there was more precipitation coming from the eyes of Bruce Arians and Carson Palmer.
The Cardinals play in an indoor stadium, but they prepared for the rain in practice.
“We practiced with a wet ball on Wednesday and didn’t have any problems,” Arians said via the Associated Press. “But when it continually pours when you have the ball, which was kind of odd, it’s tough.”
Andrew Franks kicked a 21-yard field goal with one second left to win the game for the Dolphins (8-5). The Cardinals (5-7-1) committed four turnovers in the first 20 minutes of the game. Palmer threw two interceptions and fumbled a snap. Running back David Johnson also fumbled.
“Every time we had the ball, it just started turning on and staying on,” Palmer said. “Then it would stop.”
There is such a thing as weather modification. China supposedly tried it to control precipitation for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. But its success is debatable and it certainly isn’t advanced enough to turn rain on and off like a faucet depending on which team has the ball in an NFL game.
