9/27 Recap: A Post Celebration Massacre In Motown

There was good news on the evening despite the final score. The MRI on Corey Kluber revealed mild strain of quadriceps muscles. and the groin injury was ruled out. Timetable for return to games is 7-10 days. Mild quad strains usually heal within 10 days. Moderate strains take 10 days to six weeks, and severe strains require three months or longer for recovery. Kluber’s return should be based on the absence of symptoms and the presence of normal leg strength and range of motion which should only take 10 days.

The 7-10 day timetable means Kluber might be able to return for Game 1 (Oct. 6) or Game 2 (Oct. 7) of the Tribe’s AL Division Series.

Player of the Game

Shawn Armstrong was the only Indians pitcher to not give up an earned run tonight. He worked two scoreless innings.

Feathers Down

Mike Clevenger was not effective and showed it early on. He gave up two earned runs on four hits, walking one and striking out one. He threw only 11 skrikes on 23 pitches. This has become a trend for Clevenger on the road. Coming into the game, Clevenger is 0-1 with a 6.04 ERA (15ER/22.1IP) in seven appearances (four starts) away from Progressive Field, compared to being 2-1 with a 3.54 ERA (11ER/28.0IP) at home. He allowed 13 earned runs over his first three road appearances (two starts) this season for a 10.32 ERA (13ER/11.1IP), but has since allowed just two earned runs over his last four road outings (two starts) for a 1.64 ERA (2ER/11.0IP).

The game seemed doomed from the beginning as Tito trotted out a lineup that was not good enough to compete for the international league championship. The offense only had four hits on the evening and Tigers starter Justin Verlander struck out 12.
