Albert Pujols 2013 Player Profile & Projections

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer —

2013 Outlook: “It’s Albert, freakin’, Pujols!”. What else is there really to say? He is currently experiencing some knee issues that may delay his ability to play Opening Day. However, Pujols is famous for his ability to recover quickly and get back on the field so I think it will have a minimal impact on his total plate appearances but shouldn’t be a disaster based on recent accounts.

Although Albert is on the wrong side of 30 he has destroyed both left and right handed pitching throughout his career and look for him to continue the onslaught in 2013, if healthy. Age may catch up with Pujols eventually but even a watered-down version of Albert is still a force to be reckoned with at the plate.
Look for Albert to have a bit of a bounce back season as he will more than likely lead the Angels in HR’s and RBI’s (with Hamilton a close second) hitting out of the 3-hole. His above average corner defense at first base will also give pitchers like C.J. Wilson and Jason Vargas some comfort, especially against left-handed hitters.
Albert is a special player surrounded by some other special players. Special things should happen for the Angels this season if all of the players, including Pujols, can stay healthy.
