Seth Curry is focused, excited, and ready to go. Entering his first NBA training camp, Curry is 100% healthy, and he’s ready to contribute to the Golden State Warriors.
The sharp-shooter went undrafted out of Duke University. He has fully recovered from a stress fracture in his right shin that he suffered in his last season at Duke. After receiving some offers from other NBA teams, Curry chose to play with his older brother, Stephen Curry, and the Warriors.
“It was a good situation for me,” Curry told Let’s Go Warriors about why he chose the Warriors. “I kind of have a feel for the organization already, and it’s a good chance for me to come in and compete.”
Curry signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Warriors on his birthday, August 23rd, which means that he will have to make the team out of training camp to have a spot on the active roster this season.
Even if Curry does make the roster, it’s unclear how much playing time he’ll get. He might play some games with the Santa Cruz Warriors, but, regardless, Curry is physically and mentally ready to compete for his spot and for his minutes.
“Right now, I’m just focused on getting healthy, and once camp comes around, I’ll be ready to go,” Curry said.
Curry is also excited for this opportunity with the Warriors, not just because he could play on the same team as his brother for the first time since high school, but also because he gets a chance to play in front of the best fans in the NBA.
Seth attended a couple of the Warriors’ playoff games at Oracle Arena in the first round against the Denver Nuggets, and he got to see firsthand how passionate Warriors fans are.
“It’s crazy. One of the craziest atmospheres I’ve seen in my life,” Curry said about Oracle.
Seth also mentioned how Stephen has told him about how crazy and loud the fans at Oracle Arena can get but witnessing it during the playoffs was a whole other story.
Curry has experience playing in front of energetic, passionate fans. He played for three years at Cameron Indoor Stadium, which is regarded as one of the best arenas in college sports. According to Curry, a lot of people say that Cameron Indoor is like the Oracle Arena of college basketball, but he says they’re two different types of atmospheres. Regardless, he’s very excited to play in the electric atmosphere of Oracle Arena.
Curry will certainly gain the respect and admiration of many Warriors fans. Not only is he incredibly humble and friendly, but he’s also a talented basketball player. Just like his brother, he’s a great three-point shooter, and all Warriors fans know how a three-pointer can make an Oracle crowd go wild.
In his final season at Duke, Curry averaged 17.5 points on 46.5 percent shooting from the field and 43.8 percent shooting from three. If he can continue his pinpoint three-point shooting, he’ll certainly earn some playing time, especially since the Warriors don’t have many proven three-point shooters on the bench. That could be Curry’s niche on this Warriors team.
Since he’s such an accurate three-point shooter, should he become the third Splash Brother, in addition to his brother and Klay Thompson?
“I don’t know…” Curry said while laughing. “I just hope I can be a Splash Cousin or something.”
No matter how much playing time Curry sees this season, he’s bound to work hard, compete, and stay humble.
“I’m just trying to come in and do what I do, so hopefully I can fit into that,” Curry said confidently.
