Stephen McGee Interviews with AngelsWin.com
Interview conducted by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer
In the 2013 draft, the Angels went heavily after pitchers to restock their farm system. In fact, 9 out of their first 10 picks were spent on pitchers. The one lone exception to the draft was Stephen McGee, a catcher drafted in the 9th round out of Florida State (277th overall).
While at Florida, Stephen earned high praise for the way he handled a young pitching staff. From what I saw, he worked well with all of the pitchers on the Orem Owlz staff. Defensively he was solid behind the dish, and offensively, he posted a .300/.383/.400 line, finishing on a positive surge to the end of the season. In fact, he finished the season with the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees as they made their playoff push (although he did not play in any games).
Going forward, McGee will play two pivotal roles for the Angels. First, as he develops as a player, he has the potential to be both an offensive and defensive catcher down the line. Second, as he works with many of the top pitchers from the 2013 draft, he will be helping to shape the future of the Angels. So, it is very worthwhile for Angels fans to get to know him.
