Warriors Blogger Beat: 2013-14 Season Is Going To Be Epic

Outdoor-Grilling-Tips11

I have determined there are only three possibilities to this season:

  1. The team does not reach the Western Conference Finals. Jim Barnett famously said after the Andre Iguodala signing that the season would be a failure if, after adding such a caliber of player as Iguodala, the Golden State Warriors do not improve upon last year’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Semifinals. I think he’s dead on, even if there are injuries that ravage the team and provide an obvious excuse. Let’s take the Oklahoma City Thunder, for example. Raise your hand if you thought last season for them was a debacle with Russell Westbrook going down in the playoffs and not being able to help them get back to The NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Injuries are injuries are injuries. Now, even if the Warriors don’t have any major injuries and can’t get to the WC Finals, that would still be considered an “EPIC FAIL”.
  2. .

  3. The team reaches the Western Conference Finals. This would be pretty epic because by reaching the Western Conference Finals, the Warriors would have to be considered an elite team for the next season and, by definition, a legitimate contender. When was the last time that happened? By losing in the Western conference Finals, the Warriors still would have achieved progress from last season. This is the “right on point” result, the one Stephen Curry wants, at a minimum.
  4. .

  5. The Warriors reach the NBA Finals. TRULY, RULY EPIC. ‘Nuff said.

As such, we are on the verge of an “epic” season, no matter what happens.

And with that, I bring you the Warriors Blogger Beat. You know when sometimes you set foot on some journey because you thought it was for one thing, and then only later you realize it might be for another?

That’s how I feel right now as I’ve been trying to captain this ship here, this public service we call “LetsGoWarriors-dot-com”. From the get-go, I wanted to make sure that we covered this team the right way for Warriors fans (I haven’t yet posted our Jerry McGuire manifesto, so I won’t get into that too much right now). So I made it a point do what I can to ensure that you get closer to the team as we get closer to the team.

As I have seen sporadically before while covering the team — and only on game days, at that — the little nuances that you see with the team, those are things that die-hard fans want to know about.

Even the simple fact that the team actually spends a lot more time at the practice facility than at Oracle Arena, you sometimes forget that. So this will be a constant stream of happenings for a whole season.

Whether that means attending practices, going to China, attending player camps, exclusive interviews with San Francisco Arena executives, or checking out shoe releases, we’ve got you covered.

First, let me tell you what the Warriors Blogger Beat is not:

  • It is not a story per se in terms of an objective thousand-word piece that you would read in a newspaper. Don’t we have plenty of these anyways? On our Twitter account, we retweet a lot of them, and a lot of them are well-written.
  • It is not a game preview or recap. Again, plenty of those around.
  • It is not a full-blown editorial or analysis. We’re not judging here, unless it’s about something interesting that happened. If there’s a bigger editorial to be told, I will write a separate opinionated piece about that particular thing that happened within the bigger picture. For example, if there was a general theme happening across multiple events, like during training camp.

Now, here’s what it is:

  • True to the culture of this blog, it will almost always include positivity and professionalism. That’s just us. We’re here to support the team, plain and simple.
  • It is a fly-on-the-wall report. You, the fan, weren’t there. But we, LetsGoWarriors, were fortunate enough to have been there. We are your eyes and ears, although if there’s something that happened that is better left unsaid, we will keep it left unsaid. Remember, we are here to support the team, yet from a third-party perspective.
  • It is written in conversational tone. We are providing an alternative angle. You already know where to find the general, mainstream stuff. We will provide that too, but we’ll also provide this.

I hope you enjoy it. A lot of readers at GoldenStateOfMind did when I wrote such pieces for them back in the day, so this is sort of a tried-and-true concept already.
