Does Stephen Curry’s Sixth-Ranked Jersey Make Him More Likely To Be Voted An All-Star?

Merchandise is a huge cog in the machine that is the NBA, which is why it’s such exciting news that Stephen Curry‘s jersey has reached number six on the top-seller list.

This is the first time that Curry has made the top-15 list, which features some of the most elite players in the NBA today.

Even with Bay Area support, one would have to assume that Curry’s jersey is selling well internationally rather than just locally.

I for one just purchased a Curry jersey, and I’ve seen more and more popping up in New Zealand, which shows just how popular the #BabyFacedKilla is becoming outside the shores of The Bay Area.

Curry ranks second in Western Conference guards, only beaten by Kobe Bryant, whose brand worldwide is cemented in the minds of the most casual fan.

That means Chris Paul (8th), Russell Westbrook (11th) and James Harden (12th) all ranked lower than Curry in terms of jersey sales.

Poor Man’s Commish has already talked about Curry coming into his superstardom, but this ranking cements the idea he’s become a household name.

Curry’s All Star Game Chances

This ranking coincides with other notable rises in fame for Curry, namely the All-Star balloting, which just released preliminary figures for its first round of voting.

Curry ranked third in backcourt players, beaten out by Chris Paul and the now re-injured Kobe Bryant. He’s one of only two Warriors to make the list, with David Lee sitting at 13 in the forward votes. With the right push from the Warriors marketing team, Curry could see himself in the starting lineup come All-Star Weekend.

Doing a little research, I discovered that of the Top-15 jerseys sold in the 2012-13 NBA season, only four of those jerseys belonged to players that did not make the All-Star game:

  • Deron Williams,
  • Joe Johnson,
  • Steve Nash, and
  • Derrick Rose.

Rose had not played at all that season so really only three were left out due to their quality of play.

With the odds stacked that heavily in his favor, it’s safe to say that Curry is headed for New Orleans and a trip to the All-Star game which many argue is overdue.
