AngelsWin.com’s 10th Anniversary Member Appreciation Interview with Bruce Nye

AngelsWin.com's 10th Anniversary Member Appreciation Interview with Bruce Nye

This week we continue our feature series celebrating our 10th anniversary of AngelsWin.com by highlighting one our elder members, contributors and senior adviser on our board of directors, in Bruce Nye.

Bruce went by the screen name of AngelInRed, then shortened it later to AIR, but now goes by his real name at AngelsWin.com. A man of incredible wisdom, Bruce has been the go to guy for Chuck Richter and other members on the board of directors for opinion and direction for the website. Bruce has also been an amazing front man and MC for our annual events and charities. Oh and the stories, Bruce has so many of them and he tells them so well.

Without further ado, here’s our interview with AngelsWin.com’s Bruce Nye.

AngelsWin.com: When and how did you first come to AngelsWin.com?
Bruce Nye: I was on the ESPN site for a few years and migrated to AngelsWin, when that site was taken over by the idiots.  I think that was in 2003.  Angel25Fan, red321, iebruin, Cals, LightTheHalo and many others made the move together.
AngelsWin.com:  What keeps you coming back to the site?
Bruce Nye:  I’ve met a lot of good friends on the site.  It’s become a home away from home for me.
AngelsWin.com:  What have been some of your favorite articles and threads?
Bruce Nye: Hands down, the “Common Courtesy” thread is the best.
AngelsWin.com: What in-person events have you attended from AngelsWin.com (Spring/Summer Fanfests, Charity Golf, Charity Softball)?
Bruce Nye:  All of them
AngelsWin.com:  Why is AngelsWin.com your internet home for the Angels?
Bruce Nye:  There is no other choice.  The site offers many forums of interest – not just baseball and the Angels
AngelsWin.com: In your opinion, what is AngelsWin.com’s best feature: the articles, charitable events, game-day chat, message boards, Fanfests, podcasts, etc?
Bruce Nye: FanFests and the charity events
Ligther Side
AngelsWin.com:  Where do you live and what do you do?
Bruce Nye: I’ve lived in Corona del Mar for 31 years and am now at age 70 retired, although I am still active in some business pursuits.
AngelsWin.com: Why are you an Angels fan?
Bruce Nye: When I was a kid living in Idaho, we got one TV game per week.  My dad and brother really liked Buddy Blatner, who was a TV announcer.  We had no clue where he went.  When I moved to SoCal in August 1968, I was adjusting to new radio stations and a Yankees Angels game was on and Blatner was the PBP guy!  I was hooked!  He was gone the next year in favor of Dick Enberg.
AngelsWin.com:  What was your first Angels game that you remember? Who’d you go with?
Bruce Nye: Tom Satriano (former Angels catcher) was in our tax department and Andy Messersmith was an intern.  A group of us would go to Anaheim to see them play.  It was my first Angels game experience.
AngelsWin.com:  Who have been your favorite players? Why? Any great stories or interactions with them?
Bruce Nye:  Easily, Tim Salmon.  Greeting him and introducing him at FanFest 2013 was a thrill for me
AngelsWin.com:  How do you survive the offseason?
Bruce Nye:  I’m an avid sports fan, so there is that, but I, like others, love the Hot Stove, free agency moves, etc.
AngelsWin.com: What’s one thing you’d like everyone in AngelsWin.com to know about you?
Bruce Nye: I’m not really the right wing conservative many believe I am. Prior to and after the BHO election, a couple friends and I would post every internet article whether accurate or not just to see the reaction of the uber-liberal gang.  It was just too entertaining to read the reaction of these folks.  This carried on for a long period of time.  In truth, politically speaking I am a very moderate guy.
