While Tim Kawakami of the Bay Area News Group wrote about the differences between Steve Kerr and Mark Jackson like the differences between golf and boxing. Well, here’s an interesting take on Kerr’s hiring which leads us back to boxing…

Kerr used the sleep-on-it-and-go-with-your-heart-in-the-morning approach to decide between playing Robin with the New York Knicks or Batman with the Warriors. As a man you’ve got to love and respect the fact he chose the latter.

When asked about being possibly vilified — Jim Carrey‘s Riddler comes to mind — for replacing Jackson, Steve didn’t shy away from the situation. Rather, he inquisitively sought out the reasons why Jackson got the axe. Getting a grasp on the mistakes of the past even if they’re not your own is invaluable to anyone, not just a new head coach.

When questioned about Stretch-4 Phoenix Suns basketball, Kerr focused his attention to ball movement and moving without it, hinting more towards a San Antonio Spurs style offense. The impression I got from all this is, if the roster stays the same we’ll be running a ton of Tex Winters Sideline Triangle Offense. But, if Kerr gets the Stretch-4 we’re all hoping for, which he seemingly covets by the way, our offense will probably use the Triangle a bit less.

When asked what he will take away from Lenny Wilkens, Kerr made Wilkens sound like the Tom Landry of the NBA: run very few sets and run them to death. As a freshman coach you can bet Kerr is going to keep it simple, in terms of how deep a playbook he’ll incorporate. Don’t be surprised if we see some of Jackson’s offense as Steve breeds a new brand into the very soul of this team.

When asked about an old conflict with Michael Jordan, Kerr told us a coming-of-age story. That seemed to be the moment he became most confident in his basketball skills and it was all because he wasn’t afraid to step up to the bully. If Jordan tries to get under your skin even as a challenge, you’d better show him you’ve got a pair or you’re a goner.

When asked about our family-feed style organization, Kerr showed off his sense of humor, claiming “there won’t be any punches thrown”, which brings me back to #DubBoxer.

Did anyone else notice Kobe Bryant came into his own after taking up boxing for a summer?

This is something I’d love to see all the Warriors players pick up this summer.
