In preparation for the 2014 FIBA World Cup, Golden State Warriors backup point guard Nemanja Nedovic suffered a stress fracture in his right foot while training for the Serbian national team in preparation for FIBA’s #Spain2014 World Cup of Basketball. This is just one of many injuries the second-year player has suffered in his very short career.

Nedovic tweeted out a picture of himself in a wheel chair with the caption “E ovo je kapiten!” which translates to “Eh this is the captain,” perhaps referring to the man who is pushing the injured Serbian star.

Nedovic is entering his sophomore campaign with the Warriors after being drafted 30th overall and immediately being traded to Golden State by the Phoenix Suns in the 2013 NBA Draft. Although he split time for both the Santa Cruz Warriors as well as Golden State, his season was shortened with various injuries throughout the year. In 15 appearances for Santa Cruz, Nedovic average 14.9 points and 4.2 assists per game.

As a result of Nedovic’s injury, the Warrior signed Summer League stand out Aaron Craft to a partially guaranteed contract. The door could be open for Craft to fill that 3rd-string point guard position. The contract is essentially a training camp invite, but if Craft could pick up where he left on in Summer League and make the final roster.

Craft went undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft after playing four years at Ohio State University, but received a spot on the Warriors Summer League team in Las Vegas last month where he averaged 7.4 points and 2.6 steals.

Craft does most of his work fighting for loose balls, and drawing charges. He is not the type of player to average 15 points a game. Head coach Steve Kerr said of Craft on Twitter last January, “What position does Aaron Craft play, you ask? Winner.”

Nedovic’s Summer League showing left many wondering if he could be the 3rd point guard option this season. He came into the summer with high expectations but did not perform at the level many thought he would, averaging 9.4 points to go along with 2.2 assists in 21 minutes per game in Las Vegas.

After a disappointing Summer League performance, Nedovic was looking to bounce back and prove that he can fill that 3rd point guard position. He is still under contract for this season, but has a team option that could last through 2017, depending on if the Warriors decide to extend an offer, which has a deadline of October 31st.
