Klay Thompson Excited to Stay in the Bay Area: “I Love the Warriors”

Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson is regarded as one of the best “two-way” — meaning effectiveness on both offesnse and defense — guards in the NBA. He is also thought of as one of the league’s best young stars who has the potential to be an All-Star for many years to come.

This summer, however, Thompsons name was at the center of many trade talks. The Warriors considered trading Thompson and other assets in order to get the coveted Kevin Love. We now know that Love will be taking his talents, along with LeBron James, to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Some might be wondering, how does Klay feel that the team that has shown so much trust in him would be willing to part ways so easily?

Thompson spoke to USA TODAY’s Sam Amick in Spain a few weeks ago about how he truly feels about the trade rumors.

“I’m super excited to be back,” Thompson stated, although he never officially left. “I love the Bay Area. I love the Warriors, the fans. I just love our team.”

Being involved in trade rumors can often be damaging to relationships between players and teams. Although Thompson’s name was mentioned frequently throughout the summer, Thompson says that he has no hard feelings.

“I wasn’t really pissed,” Thompson told Amick, “I was more just worried about being traded, just because I’m so comfortable in the Bay. I think that’s natural for anybody (to not want to) just get up and move. I mean it wouldn’t have been the end of the world, but it’s a business, and I’m still playing ball for a living.”

Thompson’s sentiments come as no surprise, as we reported in the Summer of 2013 from Las Vegas his devotion to #DubNation.

“Me and Steph (Curry) have another year together, and we’ve got a proven big man, all-NBA defender (in Andrew Bogut). I really believe we can be a championship team,” Thompson stated, “ I know (the Western Conference) is a gauntlet, but we can do it.”
